Morbid Obesity – Getting The Help You Need

For many people putting on weight seems to be just a normal part of life and is not something they worry about until either other people start to pass comment or it begins to affect their ability to go about their normal day to day life. By the time this happens however a surprisingly high percentage of people have passed through the stages of being overweight and obese and have reached the point of morbid obesity.

Morbid obesity is generally measured in terms of your Body Mass Index (BMI) which is calculated by taking your weight in kilograms and dividing it by the square of your height in meters. If the result of this calculation is greater than 40 then you are said to be suffering from morbid obesity. As a very general guide a man would be classed as morbidly obese if he were about 100 lbs overweight and a woman would reach this point when carrying approximately 80 lbs of excess weight.

So, having reached the point of morbid obesity where do you turn for help?
For a growing number of people the obvious solution would seem to be weight loss surgery however, as far as your doctor is concerned, this is not your first port of call but is very much the option of last resort. So where else can you look for a solution?

Your starting point has to be the traditional route of diet and exercise. Indeed, to qualify as a candidate for weight loss surgery, should this turn out to be your only workable option, you will need to satisfy your surgeon that you have tried everything else, including dieting, without success.

Despite the craze for diet and exercise that has been sweeping much of the Western world in recent years the sad fact is that the vast majority of people simple don't lose weight through dieting. They may well lose weight while they are on a diet but as soon as they come off it their weight bounces back up again and, in most cases, ends up above the weight at which they started the diet.

For people who are greatly overweight, and certainly for those who have reached the point of morbid obesity, there is also the added complication that their high weight is being sustained by a lifestyle and a pattern of eating which may be extremely difficult to break.

At this point you need professional help. A do-it-yourself diet or membership of your local slimming club or an organization like Weight Watchers is simply not going to work so don't waste your time even trying it. Sit down and talk to your doctor and get yourself onto a long-term (at least six months) medically supervised weight loss program under the care of your own or a specialist doctor and with the support of trained dietitians and counselors.

A medically supervised diet conducted over a reasonably long period of time with professional help and assistance to not only lose weight but to make the necessary changes to your lifestyle and eating habits stands a reasonable chance of success and, if it doesn't work, then you are at least part of the way down the road to qualifying for weight loss surgery.

Morbid obesity is, as its name suggests, a life-threatening condition and, having reached this point, you need to take positive action to reverse you weight gain before you start to run into one or more of the many complications that being morbidly obese will inevitably bring in its wake. This is not however a condition for which a simple "self-help" remedy will do the trick and you should not hesitate to seek professional medical advice and assistance right from the start.

Obesity Surgery

It is an undeniable fact that obesity has become a global epidemic and is wreaking havoc on our society as mortality rates soar. Approximately 30% of the general population is considered obese, but it doesn't stop there. An unprecedented 15% of young people are afflicted as well, leaving their budding lives scarred emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
Contrary to the unbelievable number of claims for products that miraculously take off the pounds, there is no magic cure for obesity. However, there is an option. Obesity surgery is becoming increasingly popular despite the many side effects.

Obesity surgery is only for those people who have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more or are suffering from a disabling condition due to excess weight. Morbidly obese people who are unable to lose weight by any other method often turn to this major surgery as a last resort. However, the younger generation soon may not have this option. Physicians are becoming very reluctant to perform obesity surgery on patients younger than 18 because of the lack of knowledge about the long-term side effects. The serious short-term consequences are a deterrent as well. The absolute minimum age recommended is 13 in girls and 15 in boys. The youngest patient on record who underwent obesity surgery was a 12 year-old girl.

The rate of obesity surgeries has multiplied unbelievably with over 170,000 done yearly. There are no reliable statistics on how many of these were performed on teenagers, but a definite increase was noted. Costs for the surgery range anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000 (depending on the type), with the average being $30,000. If complications develop, obesity surgery may cost $65,000 or more. The effects, however, may be priceless for some. Adult patients lose an average of 70% of their excess body weight, while teenagers show even more promise at 82%. For a few patients, the results are devastating and the little weight they lose is quickly regained.

There are 2 main types of obesity surgery: those that reduce the size of the stomach and those that reduce absorption of calories in the small intestine. Gastric bypass is a combination of the two and is the most common type done. All require a lifelong commitment to making drastic changes in eating habits and lifestyle. Obesity surgery is beset with many risks and for young people, this may mean permanent stunting of growth. 2% of patients die from the surgery and 40% develop complications within six months.

Complications range from infection, respiratory problems and bleeding, to vomiting, hernias and stomach obstruction. Many patients develop anemia or osteoporosis in the long term and have to constantly take supplements. Obesity-related illnesses, such as diabetes, are often resolved, though. Considering only the short-term effects, young people actually have fewer risk factors in developing complications from obesity surgery if they follow all the recommendations.

Overall, obesity surgery remains highly controversial. Many argue that the psychological benefits of feeling human again far outweigh the disadvantages, especially for teenagers. There is always the possibility of regaining the weight lost or developing serious complications. Much of the success of obesity surgery depends on choosing an experienced physician and complying with orders. Obesity surgery has greatly improved over the years and for many, those unwanted pounds have become a thing of the past.

The Epidemic Of Obesity

One of the most serious problems dieticians have to encounter is that of obesity. According to the American Obesity Association (AOA), social structure, general and regional trends, socioeconomic transitions, as well as modernization and urbanization are the primary causes that led to the recent increase in obesity rates. The prevalence of overweight people is reported worldwide, both in developing and developed countries. Recent changes in consumption, culture, economic development and lifestyle have increased the problem of obesity, both in children and adults. Thus, it is of vital importance for people all around the globe to understand the risks associated with being obese and direct their efforts in reducing this alarming trend that is spreading.

The USA obesity rates have reached epidemic proportions and the numbers are socking. As recent statistical data indicate, 58 million people are overweight, 40 million obese and 3 million morbidly obese. These numbers are further supported by the fact that 8 out of 10 people over 25 years of age are overweight. Moreover, 78 percent of Americans do not meet the basic activity level recommendations. Even more alarming are the results that indicate a 76 percent increase since 1990 in Type II diabetes in adults belonging to the 30 to 40 age group.

Consequently, a variety of diseases and health problems appear to be directly related to the obesity trend monitored. As the scientific reports land on the physicians' desks, it is reported that 80 percent of Type II diabetes has to do with the increased levels of obesity in adults, 70 percent of cardiovascular disease is caused by poor eating habits, 42 percent of breast and colon cancers diagnosed belongs to obese individuals, 26 percent of high blood pressure is caused by the excess weight a person carries and 30 percent of gall bladder surgery is performed on a person that suffers from serious obesity problems. Moreover, obesity is also a risk factor in higher rates of certain types of cancer as well as fatty liver disease, vascular disorders, thrombosis, obstructive sleep apnea, musculoskeletal problems and gastro-esophageal reflux. Abdominal obesity is particularly associated with insulin resistance syndrome and cardiovascular disease.

If the numbers above have alarmed you enough to go and weigh out yourself, try to remember that suffering from obesity should not be something you should be ashamed of. You need support and guidance to change your eating and exercise habits, but most importantly you need to maintain your motivation. Eating smaller quantities is not enough. You have to eat right and keep yourself alert of the severe consequences related with poor nutrition and low exercise levels.

Obesity - Causes And Solutions

Due to the dramatic increases in obesity over the past 20 years, it has now reached epidemic proportions. Thirty percent of adults over the age of 20 are obese in the United States, or 60 million people. This epidemic includes not only adults, but children as well. The percentage of young people who are overweight has more than doubled in the last 20 years. There are now 9 million children between the ages of 6 -19 who are considered overweight.

WHAT IS OBESITY?
Obesity is defined simply as too much body fat. Your body is made up of 70% water. The other 30% consists of fat, protein, carbohydrate and an assortment of vitamins and minerals. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions, including the following:

*Hypertension
*High total cholesterol
*Type 2-diabetes
*Coronary heart disease
*Stroke
*Gallbladder disease
*Osteo-arthritis
*Respiratory problems
*Certain types of cancers

CAUSES OF OBESITY:
The epidemic of obesity did not crop up overnight. Obesity is a chronic condition caused by an assortment of factors. Because there are so many factors involved (genetics, environment, metabolism, overeating, etc.), it is very difficult to treat the problem.

For instance, a person’s genetics and environment can increase their risk of obesity, but their behavior also influences their risk. It is easy for someone to blame heredity for their obesity, but the choices a person makes can increase or decrease their risk significantly.

The choice to be physically inactive and practice unhealthy eating habits not only greatly increases the risk of obesity, but it leads to other diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. On the other hand, people who avoid the behaviors that increase their risk can expect to live healthier and longer lives.ADDING TO THE PROBLEM:

In the United States, our food options and eating habits have changed dramatically over the course of the past 20 years. We are faced with an astounding array of choices in the grocery stores, many that are not healthy.

Shelves are packed with foods that are pre-packaged and high in fat, sugar and calories. Even foods that are marked as healthy or low-fat may contain more calories than the high-fat food they are supposed to replace. It is important to always read food labels for nutritional information.

Fast food restaurants, while convenient, tend to be high in trans fats, carbohydrates and sugar. Portion size in restaurants has increased dramatically resulting in increased calorie consumption. If the body does not burn off the calories from eating the larger portions and drinking the sugar-laden soft drinks, unhealthy weight gain takes place.

Technology has created many labor saving products that reduce the amount of energy we expend in our daily lives. Instead of people walking or riding a bicycle for short distances, cars are used. Instead of children playing outside, they are in the house watching television.

SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM:
Promoting regular physical activity and a healthy and nutritious diet are essential building blocks for creating a healthy body. In order to accomplish this, you must create an environment that supports this way of life or the obesity epidemic will continue to grow. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Adding regular physical activity contributes to an amazing array of benefits for your body. It reduces your risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, diabetes, and cancer. It reduces weight, alleviates the pain of arthritis, relieves depression symptoms, and reduces the need for medications.

Whatever physical activity you participate in does not have to be exhausting to be valuable. Remember, any movement is better than none! Taking a brisk walk every day for 20-30 minutes will significantly benefit your body, physically and mentally.

HEALTHY DIET: Good nutrition, like physical activity, lowers the risk for obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis. A diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in fat builds a healthy, strong body. Although most Americans know that a healthy diet is necessary, they are slow in changing their poor eating habits.

These poor eating habits usually begin during childhood and are difficult to change later in life. Children and teenagers eat a diet consisting of too much fat and not enough fruit and vegetables. This results in a generation of overweight, unhealthy children who grow into overweight, unhealthy adults.

Proper diet and nutrition and physical activity are the cornerstones for a healthy body, a body that will not be at risk for obesity or any of the other health-related diseases. However, many diet and exercise plans fail because people jump in headfirst and make too many changes into their routine too quickly. Making small changes slowly over the course of many months is the key to teaching your body to accept these changes and be successful.

Child Obesity

Child Obesity is a medical disorder that is found in young children. Children who suffer from this disorder will typically have a weight that is out of proportion with their age and height. Many countries consider this condition to be an epidemic, and it is common in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Statistics show that one out of every three children living in the US is considered to be overweight. There are a number of elements that are responsible for the rise of child obesity in the US. These three elements are genetics, acquired, and marketing.

Research has shown that children who are born to parents who are obese are likely to become obese themselves. While this is often caused by the excessive consumption of unhealthy foods, and some believe the condition may be genetic as well. However, this research is currently being conducted, and there is no concrete evidence which has currently been found to support this. Some children have been found to become obese because of the way their bodies grow. Another element that many believe is responsible for causing children to become obese is referred to as being acquired.

A large number of children in both the US and UK do not get sufficient amounts of exercise. Certain forms of technology such as computes, cell phones, and video games have created an environment where many children are not burning calories by being physically active. The energy that is not used may be stored in the body in the form of fat. It should be noted that it is not the technology that is responsible for this, but it is the failure on the part of parents to make sure their children are getting reasonable amounts of exercise. In the West, many children eat unhealthy amounts of fast or junk food, which has become quite popular. These foods tend to be rich in saturated fat, and are low in nutrients.

The third element which is often blamed for child obesity is marketing. In the United States and Britain, fast food companies are known for advertising their unhealthy foods to young children, and some parents have begun blaming them for the rise in child obesity. However, the junk food and fast food companies often point out that it is not their responsibility to supervise the diet habits of those who eat their products. They often point out that this is the responsibility of the parents to make sure their children are eating right.

There are a number of complications that can be caused by child obesity. Children can develop dangerous ailments such as heart disease or diabetes, and some may also develop cancer. Many of these children who are overweight will remain the same after they have become adults. Some of these children are humiliated by their peers, and may even be insulted by their own families. Because of this, children who suffer from obesity are prone to suffering from mental disorders. There is current debate about who is responsible for this. While it is easy to blame junk food companies, parents ultimately have the responsibility of making sure their children eat right and exercise.

Obesity In Children

Obesity is a condition that can shorten your life and can seriously affect you mentally and physically. It often has its roots in childhood. Obesity in children is growing at a frighteningly fast rate. There are more obese children now than ever before. Parents are letting their carelessness with their own diets spill over into their children’s lives.

Here are a few points to think about when trying to prevent obesity and health problems for your children.

Small children are normally energetic and often require snacks in-between meals. It is most important to choose healthy snacks for your children.

Alternative snacks can include:

Vegetable snacks like carrot sticks and celery boats are a good and fun alternative to chips and “junk food” snacks.

Fruit can be substituted for candies and sugar snacks.

Soda and sugar snacks like candy produce hyperactivity in many young children and will sow the seeds for problems later in life. It also leads to dental problems and the beginnings of obesity. It is good to keep these foods in check and use alternatives if possible. Sugar is a known addictive food in that the more you eat the more you want to eat. This can quickly escalate into a serious eating problem and can lead to obesity as the body stores excess sugar as fat.

Breakfast cereals are perhaps the biggest problems in children’s diets. Everyone is in a hurry in the morning and it is easy to reach for the cereal packet for a quick family breakfast. However be careful of these presweetened cereals as they give unnecessary large amounts of sugar to your child’s system laying the grounds for sugar addiction. Now there are many alternatives to presweetened cereals. There are many good tasting “healthy” cereals providing added fiber and less if any sugar. These are good for your children as they will provide them with a much more nutritious breakfast and not just fill them up with sugar and excess carbohydrates.

Fast food habits also begin when children are quite small. This is reinforced by extensive TV advertising and propaganda for these foods. It is almost inbred in us to eat hamburgers chips and other fast food. Children have an inborn liking for these foods and can easily become quite addicted to them. It is wise to try to keep these foods in limit, as they are not the healthiest foods to eat, especially for children who are growing and need nutritious foods to develop properly.

Good eating habits begin when children are very young. It can start from the time they first start to eat. It is very important to a child’s health to start good eating habits at a young age. It is possible to lay the foundations of good and healthy eating habits when children are still quite small. It is just a question of educating ourselves and passing on good habits to our children. When you do this you reduce the possibility of obesity in your children and all the mental and physical risks involved.

Obesity Facts You Should Know About

The facts about obesity are very well known in every population and community. The government have television adverts and leaflets plastered everywhere so people know the facts so why are they still becoming obese? Are the facts not clear? Is the government not doing enough to stop obesity levels from rising? Or are people just really lazy and don’t really give a damn?

The truth is probably the last question I asked. Many people are blocking out the messages that obesity is becoming a serious world wide problem and that things need to change. If people only watched what they ate, spent maybe ten minutes a day with exercise then people wouldn’t have to worry about the pressure and ranting from the government and health officials about obesity and things could go on as normal but that is not the case and the same problems remains, but it gets worse!

Obesity facts are available everywhere and they are showing shocking facts and figures. Over 300 million adults in America are obese, 46% of men and 32% of women in the UK are obese and the numbers of obese children are rising also. We need to take a look at the way our lives are lived and do something drastic now before it is too late and there is no going back.

Medical conditions, emotional pain and unhappiness are all setbacks of obesity and there are facts and medical evidence to support this so why is no one taking heed and sorting out their lives?! Some people have no worries so why do they have to listen to the mad raving of others when all ti would take to stop the ravings is some common sense and weight loss.

Obesity fact; the numbers of obese people are rising and nothing is getting done, another fact; if we don’t do something now there will be nothing we can do later and we are all doomed. Obesity is a serious issue and cannot be swept under the carpet. The sooner we address the problem and sort it the sooner it will go away!

Using Phentermine For Obesity

Phentermine is a drug used to suppress your appetite so this is given widely to patients who suffer from obesity as doctors and likes think it will help, but in truth there are more disadvantages to these types of methods of weight loss. Phentermine is a drug so therefore it will of course have side effects, all drugs do and one of the things you have to be careful about when you are on any kind of drug is that you do not become dependant on it. Being on this type drug and for a long time is not good for you I’m about to tell you why!

Phentermine was usually prescribed as Fen-phen, which is a combination of fenfluramine and Phentermine; although that combination is no longer used Phentermine is still prescribed.

The side effects of Phentermine include nervousness, irritability, sweating, nausea, headache, dry mouth, constipation, sleep problems and more importantly addiction. All these side effects have been reported while using Phentermine to treat obesity, there are of course some rarer ones which are of course unheard of but they do happen. These side effects listed are general side effects and most people taking Phentermine will usually suffer from at least one during the period when they are using Phentermine.

Using Phentermine to abominate obesity is not a good idea; it has been banned in Europe due to the speculation that it is related to heart and lung problems, also it is not known whether it is 100%safe to take this medication or any other kind like it for more than a couple of weeks.

Weight is generally gained after stopping this medication so if your going to out it all back on after using this medication, suffering from the side effects and having a really unhappy time while being on them what is the point in being on them at all, that is my philosophy!

Obesity and Phentermine don’t work together, the best possible way to achieve ultimate weight loss is to eat a healthy and balanced diet and incorporate some moderate exercise every day and there you have it, the best way to loose weight safely!

Exercise For Obesity?

We hear a lot about obesity these days and the usual solutions range from gastric bypass surgery to the inevitable plea for diet and exercise. However, there is one problem that people do not normally address with obesity, that is, what type of exercise can they do?

The problem? They couldn't do the same kinds of exercises as other clients because of their size...the machines were too small for them and some exercises were just downright impossible. Together, we've come up with some solutions to these problems and, if you're in the same boat, you can too.

Some of the main problems faced by obese people in the gym are:

1. Machines that are difficult to use or cause knee or back problems.

2. Swimming is a recommended exercise for obese people and this is wonderful if you have a pool in your backyard, but what if you don't? Walking around in a bathing suit causes instant panic for plenty of people, but even moreso if you're overweight or obese.

3. Recumbent bikes are another good option for obese people. The problem is, many aren't built with big enough seats and climbing onto them can be a real challenge.

4. Walking. This is a simple exercise that can be done anywhere, right? Tell that to one of my clients who got food thrown at her from a moving car because of her size.

Do Obese People get more headaches? If you have two unhealthy conditions, migraine and obesity, you are even more disabled than if you'd had either one. Past research has linked obesity to headache and migraine in adults. To investigate if such a connection exists in children and teens, Hershey and his colleagues looked at 440 migraine patients between the ages of 3 and 18 treated at seven specialty headache centers.

Permanent solution for obesity! With all the problems associated with obesity, there is only one obvious method in which thousands of obese people has already tried, and succeeded, that is to go for a gastric bypass surgery. Gastric bypass surgery is extremely safe when conducted by a certified doctor and the tens of Kgs that you lose are permanent! Find out is gastric bypass surgery is for you!

Causes And Solution For Obesity!

Exercise for Obesity

Personal training is an excellent option for anyone, but especially someone who's obese and looking to lose weight and get healthy. However, because of the gym-intimidation factor, there are plenty of obese people who miss out on the opportunity to work one-on-one with an expert. One option, if you want to avoid the masses, is to work privately with a personal trainer. You can opt for hiring a trainer to come to your home or work with a trainer at a personal training studio.

Causes for Obesity

Too much Calories! Consumption of more calories than are burned through work, exercise, and other activities will lead to overweight and obesity. In the late 1990s, Americans ate about 340 more calories per day than they did in the mid-1980s, and about 500 more calories per day than in the 1950s. The extra food was often some kind of refined carbohydrate combined with fat, saturated fat in the unhealthiest cases.

Medical problems. Some individuals are obese because of biological problems such as malfunctioning thyroid or pituitary glands. Others may have physical problems or disabilities that severely limit or prohibit exercise, strenuous work, and other physical activity.

Too much stress. New research suggests that there is a biological link between stress and the drive to eat. Comfort foods high in sugar, fat, and calories, seem to calm the body's response to chronic stress. In addition, hormones produced when one is under stress encourage the formation of fat cells. In developed countries, life tends to be competitive, fast paced, demanding, and stressful. There may be a link between so-called modern life and increasing rates of overeating, overweight, and obesity.

Is there a Permanent Solution to Obesity?

Lucky for us all, Yes, there is a permanent solution to obesity! This permanent solution is known as the Gastric Bypass Surgery. This surgery must be performed by a certified doctor. Thousands of obese people has permanently lost tens of kilos with this fool proof method. We urge you to find out more about Gastric Bypass Surgery as the permanent solution to obesity! It works.

How To Prevent Obesity

Preventing obesity starts with a good understanding of what exactly causes it in the first place. That understanding will go a long way in helping to prevent obesity in children.

Why for example are we faced with an obesity epidemic in children in the first place? The answer lies in the fact that our children’s lifestyles and habits have changed dramatically in recent years. This is the age when the great outdoors has been abandoned in favor of video games where children will instead sit indoors for hours on end peering at some screen. So an important part of the answer to obesity is the need to cultivate weight gain prevention habits amongst our children. More exercises, physical pastime and more outdoor activities will therefore help a great deal in fighting off obesity in children.

Then we need to appreciate the fact that genes also play a major role in the obesity problem. Obese parents are therefore much more likely to have obese children. It goes beyond genes because obese parents are also much more likely to pass down their poor habits, which promote and cause obesity, to their children.

Still the biggest cause of obesity has to be overeating. We all enjoy good food and that is the reason why diets are unlikely to work over the long run. A key point to remember here is the fact that it takes almost 20 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that it has had enough. What this means is the most powerful weight control tip is to reduce the speed of eating. Eating slowly will help children tremendously to know when to stop and is a great way to control obesity.

The diet also matters. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables and whole-grains are very important in the fight against obesity in children.

Sleep And Obesity

Sleep is very essential for leading a healthy life. A large number of scientific evidence suggests that too little or erratic sleep may be taking an unappreciated toll on our health. Apart from leaving us bleary-eyed, inadequate or less than enough sleep or sleeping at odd hours heightens the risk of obesity and a variety of major illnesses, including cancer, heart disease and diabetes according to recent studies.

A new study provides the latest evidence suggesting that America’s obesity epidemic is being driven, at least in part, by a corresponding decrease in the average number of hours that Americans are sleeping, possibly by disrupting hormones that regulate appetite. Researchers of a reputed US university analyzed a nationally representative sample of nearly 10,000 adults and found that those between the ages of 32 and 49 who slept less than seven hours a night were significantly more likely to be obese as compared to those who get proper sleep.

Less amount of sleep on a regular basis is associated with several forms of ailments which includes an increased risk of colon cancer, breast cancer, heart disease and diabetes. The reason behind the occurrence of diseases is the fact that sleep disruption affects crucial hormones and proteins that play key roles in causing these diseases.

So, to avoid obesity, try to get eight hours of proper sleep everyday without fail. It can make you feel fresh and energetic throughout the day. But in case you’ve got afflicted with the dreaded ailment known as obesity then instead of getting panic you should try to control the situation. You’ve got a whole lot of options available to deal with obesity such as diet pills, exercise and dieting. Out of these three, diet pills are the easiest and most convenient method of weight loss. Phentermine, one of the most beneficial diet pills has brought a positive change in the appearance of millions of men worldwide.

What You Need To Cure Obesity

First, let's define our terms. Dictionaries agree: obesity is excess body fat. It is not defined as a behavior. However, many people use the term obesity as short-hand for overeating or lack of exercise. But that is not its definition.

Consider this: most people can distinguish between smoking and lung cancer. One is a behavior and one is a disease. Or problem drinking of alcohol and liver disease. One is a behavior and one is a disease. Sunbathing without protection is a behavior; skin cancer is a disease.

Second, obesity - the excess accumulation of body fat - fits all the definitions of "disease." How is "disease" defined? Most dictionaries, general as well as medical, define a disease as an interruption, cessation or disorder of a bodily function, organ or system. Obesity certainly fits this definition.

What You Should Do To Cure Obesity

In the United States alone, obesity has become an unstoppable epidemic. Hundreds of thousands of Americans die every year because of obesity. Don’t become another statistic!

Warning: What you are about to read may offend some people, but it needs to be said.
Many people suffer from being overweight. It may result from a stocky build, slow metabolism, or some other physical reason, but it is a fact of life for many people. They will probably struggle with it their entire lives.

However, obesity is different. A very miniscule percentage of obese people have medical reasons for their condition. The rest of them just cannot stop shoveling the food in long enough to see the consequences of their actions.

Have you been in a restaurant or at a party and watched an obviously obese person shoveling in the food and drinking a soda? Do they think the diet soda will make all that fat and calories go away? It doesn't work that way.

The following are the beginning steps of a very long and bumpy road to recovery. However, if you want to rid yourself of obesity once and for all, you may want to immediately put the suggestions below into action before it is too late:

- Stop eating fatty foods! Potato chips, french fries, soda… you name it! Before you can recover from your problem, you have to admit that you have one. And those fatty foods are indeed a big problem. If you feel that you absolutely must eat something, get some fresh fruit or vegetables. They not only contain the essential nutrients that your body needs for good health, but some will actually burn more calories that they replace.

- Check up with your doctor. If you are more than 50 pounds overweight, only a fool would recommend any diet plan until you are medically cleared by your physician. Your doctor can also advise you on the best programs to help you get started. This cannot be emphasized enough. Once you have eliminated the fattening foods, see your doctor before going one step farther.

- In the worst case scenario, consider seeking a counselor. Is there a deep seated, subconscious reason for your eating disorder or are you just a pig? The answers may surprise you. Once you discover the reasons for your self destructive behavior, you will be better equipped to handle them. If you cannot afford counseling, talk to a trusted friend or, if you are a religious person, perhaps someone at your church. They may not be able to diagnose your problem, but they can be there for you when you encounter those bumps in the road to recovery.

In conclusion, fighting obesity is just a matter of effective prevention and discipline. It is about forming a new, healthier habit. Would you rather live the rest of your life tired, unhappy and fat? Or do you think it is time to get your act together and start eating healthy? You decide!

Overview Of Obesity

Obesity is a disease that affects approximately 60 million people in the United States, and women are especially affected. Over one-third of women between the ages of 20 and 74 are obese, the majority of them being African American or Mexican American. With more and more pre-packaged food and less and less activity, the number of obese people in America has steadily increased since the 1960Õs.

But what is obesity? Many people think obesity means that a person is overweight, but thatÕs not exactly true. An overweight person has a surplus amount of weight that includes muscle, bone, fat, and water. An obese person has a surplus of body fat. Most health professionals concur that a man is obese if he has over 25 percent body fat, and a woman is obese if she has over 30 percent. Women physiologically have more body fat than men, so that why thereÕs a difference in percentage.

It is difficult to determine the exact percentage of body fat a person has, but estimates can be made in a number of ways. First, using a tweezer-like tool called a caliper, you can measure the thickness of skin folds on different points of your body and compare the results with standardized numbers. You can also use a small device that sends a harmless electrical current through your body and measures your body fat percentage. The most commonly used method to determine if a person is obese is to look at his/her Body Mass Index (BMI). A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be obese, and a BMI over 40 is considered to be severely obese. ItÕs important to remember though that BMI could be misleading in pregnant or lactating women and in muscular individuals.

With obesity, comes the increased risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes, heart disease, and breast, colon, and prostate cancer. In addition, obesity has been linked to mental health conditions such as depression or feelings of shame and low self-esteem. Health experts say that even losing 10 to 15 percent of your body weight can dramatically decrease the risk of developing these serious conditions. In addition, many obese people are discriminated against and targets of insults and other verbal abuse.

A number of factors, such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, genetics, and certain medical disorders, cause obesity, but it can be conquered. The following information seeks to educate about obesity and the methods used to treat it. It does not take the place of a physician.

Childhood Obesity

Along with the increase of obesity in adult, childhood obesity is on the rise. Around 15.5 percent of adolescents in the United States, aged 12 to 19 are obese. Even more alarming, about 15.3 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are obese. These children are developing Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure at an early age. They are placing themselves at increased risk for heart disease and other obesity-related diseases. Their weight also makes them the target of bullies and children who insult and taunt them about their weight. This can ruin their self-esteem and put them at risk for depression.

TodayÕs children make up the digital generation. TheyÕve been surrounded by computers their entire life and are not as physically active as children of past generations were. Instead of going outside and playing, they tend to hang out indoors, watching TV and playing computer and video games. Along with lack of physical activity comes the convenience of fast food. There are fast food restaurants virtually around every corner, and they have easy access to snack foods full of saturated fats and sugars. In addition, obese parents are more likely to have obese children. The reason for this is two-fold. First, obese parents probably pass down their poor habits to their children. Second, genetics plays a role in obesity.

ItÕs important for parents to be role models to their children and emphasize the importance of physical activity and healthy eating. Parents can create healthy environments for their children by doing regular physical activities, such as biking, swimming, or walking together. They should encourage their children to participate in sports, dance, martial arts, and etcetera. This allows children to develop an appreciation of physical activity and enjoy exercising.

When it comes to eating, parents need to implement diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains. They can make eating enjoyable and healthy by preparing food together and eating together as a family. Fast-food should be limited and reserved for special occasions. Way too often, we reward ourselves for a job well done with food. Look for other ways to reward your children for doing a great job, such as a special shopping trip or a day with just mom or dad.

Obesity In Dogs

Numerous studies have shown that more Americans are obese today than ever before and, interestingly, we’re not the only ones. Not only are Americans fatter than ever, so are their dogs; and the phenomenon can have serious ramifications for both groups. Obese dogs run a lot of the same risks that obese people do. When a dog is over weight it is at higher risk for heart disease, respiratory ailments, weak joints and other problems. In short; it is every bit as dangerous for a dog to be carrying extra weight as it is for a person – perhaps more so due to the shorter lifespan that dogs have. An overweight eight year old dog is akin to an overweight fifty-six year old man and subject to many of the same health risks.

Fortunately for us and our dogs; the equation is associative and works the same in the opposite direction. Just as a healthy diet and plenty of good cardiovascular exercise can trim down a chubby man; it can take the extra weight off of a dog.

Doggie Diets:

To reduce the overweight or obese dog’s body weight, a program of diet and exercise should be introduced. It is important to visit a veterinarian as the doctor can determine whether the dog’s obesity is simply due to high caloric intake or some other medical concern like diabetes. The vet can also give you the best suggestions about diet and exercise. There are many brands of dog food on the market that are specially balanced to help a dog lose weight.

Despite what food or dietary supplements you’re using, there is no substitute for the support and commitment of the family. Each member must agree to help control the dog’s caloric intake, feeding exact amounts at exact times and limiting the intake of snacks. Feeding the dog extra treats or table scraps on the sly will not be doing the pooch any favors.

Doggie Exercise Programs:

Exercise is important for any dog. A dog that doesn’t get enough exercise quickly gains weight and may become extremely keyed up or very lethargic. Fortunately, most dogs love to exercise by nature. They love to run and play with their people. The overweight dog my be reluctant to exercise at first, but if you persist in taking him for walks or to play games like “fetch” (most dogs love to run after a thrown tennis ball or other object), the pup will soon come around and start exercising more frequently and for longer periods of time.

It Takes Time:

People don’t get to their ideal weight overnight when dieting and neither will a dog. Remember that Rover didn’t put on those extra pounds all at once and they won’t come off that way either. Most dogs take between ten and twelve months to reach their ideal weight goal, depending upon how much extra weight must be lost.

Obesity And Pregnancy

If you are overweight when you become pregnant, your physician will likely recommend that you gain less weight than a woman who is average or normal weight. You should not diet during pregnancy because it is vital that you supply your body and unborn baby with an adequate number of nutrients. What you can do however to minimize your weight gain is to ensure that you eat a healthy selection of foods during your pregnancy.

One of the best things you can do to avoid too much weight gain is ensure that you have a healthy selection of snacks handy when at times when hunger strikes. Think about things like yogurt, raisins, nuts, fruit and other healthy selections that are not only convenient but also taste good.

There are health conditions that being overweight or obese increases the risk for during pregnancy. Among these include:

- Preeclampsia

- Premature Birth

- Gestational Diabetes

- Cesarean Sections

Giving Birth to Children with Obesity Problems

Unfortunately women who are already overweight prior to pregnancy are more likely to gain excessive amounts of weight during pregnancy. Several studies have suggested that more than 80 percent of overweight and obese women will gain too much weight, defined as weight exceeding 40 pounds or more, during their pregnancy.

Women who are obese and give birth are also more at risk for maternal mortality during labor and delivery. The cesarean rates are often higher because labor fails to progress in a timely fashion.

Did you know that gaining more than the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy also puts you at risk for being overweight several years after pregnancy?

Babies born to mothers that are overweight might also experience a number of health problems. Those most often cited by studies include an increased risk of congenital heart defects and a greater risk of neural tube defects.

The best thing you can do for yourself and the health of your unborn child is maintain a healthy weight prior to becoming pregnant. If you are overweight, work with your healthcare provider or a nutritionist to come up with a sound dietary regimen that will ensure that you gain an appropriate amount of weight for maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Adopting healthy habits during your pregnancy often results in a ‘carry over’ effect, meaning you are more likely to eat healthily after giving birth as well as before.

Combating Obesity

So you ask, " How do I determine if I am Obese, Overweight or fat?" Usually 20% or more over recommendations on standard weight charts indicates that you fit into the obese category. Obesity refers specifically to having an abnormally high proportion of body fat.

An estimated 97 million adults in the United States, 55% of the population, are overweight or obese! Similar percentages exist for the United Kingdom, showing that the United Kingdom having the highest percentage in Europe.

Obesity is increasing

Largest increase has occurred in the last 10 to 15 years. Increases were seen in both sexes and all classes, with the greatest increase in 18- to 29-year-olds and in those who have achieved higher education.

Weight gain is dependent on a person's energy intake being greater than energy expenditure. One pound (0.45 kg) is equal to 3,500 calories. Therefore, a person consuming 500 calories more than he or she expends daily will gain 1 lb a week.

Food cravings

Weight alterations in either direction cause changes in energy expenditure that favor a return to the set point. This helps explain the poor problem of recidivism following attempted weight loss. Only by reaching a lower weight for a period of time can the person get used to feeling lighter.

Children

Children become overweight for a variety of reasons. The most common causes are genetic factors, lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, or a combination of these factors. In rare cases, a medical problem, such as an endocrine disorder, may cause a child to become overweight. Your physician can perform a careful physical exam and some blood tests, if necessary, to rule out this type of problem.

TIPS

A sensible diet and some exercise, has shown to be the most effective thing to do.

A key point is not to eat too much junk food and to ensure you get the basic nutrition your body needs. You should eat at least two portions of fruit and vegetables each day. We would highly recommend supplementing your diet with super foods.

Physical activity is a necessary component of every weight loss plan.

Eat three meals a day at about the same time each day sitting at a table.

Eat slowly.

Avoid distractions such as television or magazines.

Cook smaller amounts; use smaller plates.

Avoid second helpings.

Scrape plates directly into the garbage.

By following the steps above you can not only rid yourself of the known dangers of being obese, but also you can increase your energy levels and feel better.

What Is Obesity?

Obesity is a condition that results from the accumulation of excess fat in the body. In general, a person has obesity when the weight of the person is 20 percent or more above the normal recommended weight based on the person’s height, age, sex and build or bone structure.
There is what is called the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a measure of body fat, calculated using a formula that requires the height and the weight of an adult (either man or woman).

Persons with a BMI of less than 18.5 are underweight. A person is considered to be of normal weight if his or her BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9; overweight if the BMI is between 25 and 29.9; and obese if it is 30 and above. If the BMI is 40 or exceeds 40, then the person is said to be morbidly obese. Morbid obesity is also described as a ‘clinically severe obesity’, that requires urgent medical intervention.

The BMI figures given above are compiled and supplied by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). One problem with the BMI is that it does not give the right estimate of the body fat in cases of persons with a muscular build (as in the case of athletes) or those who have lost their muscle mass (as in the case of old people). Usually, however, the BMI is a fair indicator of obesity.

When you have accumulated excessive fat in the body tissues, you have obesity, a condition that may increase the risk to several health conditions such as diabetes, ailments of the heart, stroke or paralysis and so on. Excess weight is always a health risk. Millions of people (more than a third of the adults) suffer from obesity and the attendant health problems. Included among them are those with morbid obesity. It is estimated that almost 5 to 10 percent of the obesity-affected population is in need of immediate medical care and treatment, because of morbid obesity.

That over-eating causes overweight or obesity may not be news. Nevertheless, there may also be some other factors responsible for obesity. A large number of scientific studies link obesity to genetic factors. Scientists from the National Institutes of Health have been studying the occurrence of obesity in the Pima Indians of Arizona and Mexico for decades, because they are among the most obese people in the entire world, some of them weighing more than 500 pounds. That amounts to very severe obesity. No wonder, most of them, especially the Pima tribes in Arizona, are found to have diabetes and heart problems. Certain people therefore are genetically predisposed to obesity. Processed or fast food and a sedentary lifestyle, with little or no time devoted to physical activity or exercise and with no need or even desire to walk (the advent of the car being the culprit here) are found to contribute to obesity. In addition, some medical conditions like hypothyroidism and steroid-intake result in obesity.

Excessive weight, which is usually visible in a person’s girth, or the circumference of the person’s waist, due to the accumulation of too much fat in the abdomen, leads to serious health risks, including death in severe cases of obesity, especially morbid obesity. Therefore, irrespective of the causes of obesity, it is essential for obese people to take suitable steps for losing as much weight as is necessary to bring it to the level of normal BMI.

All You Need To Know About Obesity

Most people did not know much about obesity. For them, obesity goes no deeper than a less than fashionable look, but the fact is, obesity is an epidemic, a disease spread fast in our world these days, across both the industrialized world and emerging economies.

What is obesity? Obesity means having too much energy that will become fat after you eating foods, on your body. Obesity puts a strain on joints and bones that have to sustain more weight than ever before, which leads to arthritis in the future. The weight also tends to make people lazier. It means more weight put on your body.

There are so many high cholesterol foods in our world. The lack of activity and high cholesterol brought by eating too much of the wrong food will impair the proper functioning of your heart and blood vessels. This caused high blood pressure, stroke and other blood and heart conditions. Excess fat also leads cessation of breathing during sleep, called apnea.

I know with patience and effort, we can cure obesity. As this diseases caused by obesity spreads over the land, so do the efforts for curing it increase. Read my review in my website to know more.

Now we should talk about how to recognizing obesity, shall we?
The definition of obesity is a BMI (body mass index) of above 30. What is BMI? BMI is a measure of a person’s weight scaled according to height. This index serves to show the amount of fat stored on your body, and if your BMI is higher than 30, the worst is your exposure to certain diseases.

Many weight loss experts also warn that having a lot of fat stored around your waist increases the risk of developing diseases. Going beyond size 40 in men and size 35 in women means only trouble for your body in the future.

Anyway, unhealthy eating combined with sustained lack of activity caused obesity. When you are eating too much food, food will give more calories than your body need.

Eating habits are the first reason why people became obese. Lack of activity is the second reason. With neither the time, nor the inclination to control one’s meals, it is no wonder people get fat all over the world, everywhere. About lack of activity, it is different from the past where people walking to go working. Now most people using car for transportation.

Obesity, unfortunately, also be inherited from family members who suffered from it. If your family has a history of obesity, then you would do well to watch your weight problem.
About Fast Foods, what do you think?

I am busy and you are busy, I know that. But do not let this change your eating habits. This does not mean that we have to eat everything fast food restaurants put before you. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, etc. may look good, but they are fat too highly powered got your health. The problem is, a single burger is worth a whole meal, but your stomach will never filled by a regular burger, so it will keep asking for more, and you will eat more burgers despite the fact that your body does not need more burgers.

Many people try diets and fitness programs to lose a few pounds but when they hungry, they are returning to the old lifestyle and eating habits. It means that weight lost turns into weight regained and your body gets used to these lean times and it will harder for you to lose weight.

So what I need to do?

To all this you may add that following a diet for a longer period is hard, because you will always crave the forbidden foods. The fact that certain delicious foods are forbidden makes them that much more attractive. I know that. You need a successful diet. A successful diet means adjusting your lifestyle to your needs, especially by making time for more exercising. Please don’t forget to control your eating habits. It is very important. However, you may need a natural weight loss pills to help you lose unwanted pounds.

The Causes Of Obesity

Far and away, the most common cause for obesity is unhealthy eating habits combined with an overall lack of any type of physical activity. If the food that you consume results in intaking more calories than you burn, you body opens up the ol' store room and puts it away as fat.
Very basic, simplified concept... but that's the bottom line.

Bad eating habits are by far the number one reason why people head down the path to obesity. With today's emphasis on time and convenience when it comes to eating and planning one's meals it is no wonder at all that obesity is propagating throughout the entire world. And that's just the diet side of the equation... throw in the fact that with all of today's other conveniences, people get less and less activity in their daily routine and you've got a world wide health issue developing.

When it comes to genetics; you can be more naturally susceptible to obesity and being overweight if it runs in the family. But having said this, it is still up to you to control your eating habits and your lifestyle in order to effectively keep obesity at bay.

As I mentioned just a bit early, personal time and convenience combined together more often than not add up to junk food. If you find that you are eating out more than you should, you should start looking at what you are about to eat. For instance, fast food and restaurant food's portioning are usually way more than your body needs... not to mention the type of food. A single burger in and of itself is a complete meal as far as your body is concerned because of the fat and calories involved. The problem is your stomach will not 'feel' full after consuming but one singe burger... so it cries out for more... regardless of the fact that your body is at it's maximum. If you want more volume... eat healthier foods to begin with.

Changing your eating habits is a much better mind set to get into than 'dieting'. The problem with the 'dieting' mentality is that most people will tend to lose a few pounds on their latest 'diet' but return to their old destructive eating habits once they get bored or constantly inconvenienced with the diet. Then to add another layer of difficulty, once you go from diet to diet restricting your body from nutrients; your body will go into a defensive mode storing everything that it possibly can and make it even more difficult for you to lose weight.
Any successful 'diet' is actually a successful 'lifestyle' change... which by the way includes exercise. Forbidding yourself from certain foods that you enjoy immensely just makes them all the more attractive to you.

So, think lifestyle and not so much diet. Work to eat healthier, and keep those 'forbidden' foods moderated and proportioned... and get some regular exercise. Not only does exercise withdraw those calories from your body's storage bank; but you'll feel better, reduce your boredom, your stress level, and those cravings.

Causes Of Obesity

Gaining weight seems to be more of a human condition, restricted only to us. Very few species outside of humans tend to gain as much weight. And at first glance there seems to be nothing wrong with a person’s gaining some weight. The problem develops when the weight of the individual becomes too much. Although help is sought for this problem then, the actual causes of obesity are not always fully looked at.

The causes of obesity are ones that we all know of and yet there are times when we ignore these warnings. This disregard comes with a high price tag. The end result is that we lose control of our weight. Various diet options which are known have a certain chance of working but there are still some drawbacks to be seen. These drawbacks come mainly when we don’t see an immediate result.

At this point the causes of obesity can begin to be seen. In these causes the main culprit is our will power. The inability to control our lifestyles is why these problems develop in the first place. In order to make sure that you don’t develop severe weight problems it might be an idea to list what you believe are your causes of obesity. This may be a problem as many of us refuse to believe that there is a problem.

Once you understand the gravity of the situation as with regards to your health you can start the process of getting this weight problem back under control. At present, besides the usual routes of weight loss like diets and exercise you have a number of surgical options. These options for weight loss are drastic but there are a number of people who swear by the benefits to be found.

While these surgeries are viable options to look into you should first know what the causes of obesity are. Once you know what is causing you to lose your weight gain battle you can effect the changes. With these changes you can make sure that the surgery is a success. There is also another reason to see what these causes are.

The main reason is that unless you are willing to examine the various aspects of your life you will have difficulties with your health. And if no solutions are found and implemented then you have a chance of getting into the region of weight which is known as morbid obesity. This situation is very dangerous to your life. Therefore knowing the causes of obesity and putting these changes into effect as soon as possible is the best way to have a good life.

Getting Obesity Help

Obesity help can come in many shapes and sizes. Family embers and friends can lodge their support by dieting with you or helping you to diet alone. Doctors can help by referring you to a nutritionist and prescribing you some appetite suppressants (also known as diet pills, be wary of them). Nutritionists will help you by coming up with a diet plan which you abide by and then concentrating on an exercise routine when you can manage one.

Another new way to help people suffering from obesity is to perform surgical procedures such as extensive gastric bypass; where portions of the stomach are removed, gastric banding; placing what seems like an elastic band around your stomach, panniculectomy; removing pieces of stomach (also known as a tummy tuck). These are just some of the procedures available and are only for use in drastic times. Many people can loose weight without these operations and therefore do not need to put themselves through a lot of pain which is consistent with each of these operations.

When accepting help for your obesity make sure it is a plan that you will stick to and work for as motivation does decrease very quickly, a lot of weight falls of at the beginning but when the first initial few weeks are past the weight will fall of slowly and you will start to get cravings so that needs to be taken into consideration and whatever you do don’t attempt a quick fix fad diet all they will do is mess up your insides. The best way to loose weight is to eat properly and sensibly.

Obesity help is available all around you; there are adverts on the television, books, videos and programmes to help people who have problems loosing weight. Why not join a slimming class? A Look At Obesity

If you thought being obese is being the target of fun, it only tells the part of the story about dangers and predicaments obesity exposes you to. Obesity is no more a simple result of overeating-lead-to-overweight case. To quote the American Obesity Association’s words, “It is now recognized that obesity is a serious, chronic disease. No human condition — not race, religion, gender, ethnicity or disease state — compares to obesity in prevalence and prejudice, mortality and morbidity, sickness and stigma.”

Obesity is a trojan horse. It brings a battalion of ailments, which are most detrimental to our health. To name a few, following are the complications that could arise out being obese.

1. Hypertension
2. Diabetes (Type-2)
3. Coronary heart disease
4. Stroke
5. Gallbladder disease
6. Osteoarthritis
7. Asthma
8. Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
9. Some cancers (endometrial, breast and colon)
10.High levels of cholesterol

This is an unending list, where each of the above ailments are capable of creating other complications, where no medication without side effect, could be comfortably used. Prevention is the best cure for obesity. How to achieve this?
Shake Your Head

A doctor once told my friend, who is obese that it is very easy to lose weight. My friend became very interested and asked him to suggest a way. The doctor calmly replied that just shake your head from left to right, maybe ten times a day! My friend became very curious. What is the idea behind this? He asked. Doctor calmly replied, "Whenever anyone offers you something to eat, shake your head from left to right". Simple, isn't it? It is simple, but it requires discipline, which is not simple. But then, habit makes discipline. Avoiding junk food and fast food must be done with a discipline.

Is Being Overweight Obesity
Obesity is not just due to eating disorder unlike overweight. Obesity is hereditary and it is measured by Body Mass Index or BMI. Adults over the BMI of 30 Kg/m2 is considered are considered obese and any one with reading between 25 and 29.9 kg/m2 is overweight, not obese.

Obesity is posing the biggest threat to Americans and the numbers are rising with each year. There are around 35% obese Americans according to a survey. This is also draining the state exchequer heavily to the tune of $25 billions a year.

What Causes Obesity
There are more reasons than one. Having obsession to eating more calories than you can burn off, how active are you, what you eat and whether you have an inherited streak in your genes, all these determine your chances of becoming obese. In any case it is due to the over accumulation of fats.

Is There An Anti-Obesity Plan?
There are many quick-fix plans being promoted by the so called dieticians which are not regulated by FDA. However, burning fat by increased physical activity and a changed lifestyle in addition to changed eating habits to healthier foods must gradually show results.

Although fat at hips is not quicker to harm you than the accumulation around waist, there is no guarantee that you are absolutely safe. Talk to your trainer and dietician, pull-up your socks and get going. After all, it’s your life.

The Causes Of Obesity

With daily focus in America on weight, health and obesity, there is one question that gets ignored: what causes obesity?
There is no simple answer.

Basically, a person becomes obese when more calories are consumed than he or she can burn. This is called “calorie imbalance.” Beyond this simple definition, the factors that cause obesity are varied and many.

Calorie imbalance has many things that affect it. What causes this imbalance varies from one person to another. We also know obesity is more than just over-eating. Genetic, environmental, psychological, and other factors seem to play big roles in causing obesity.
Here are some factors that have been attributed to obesity:

1. Weight Gain During Certain PeriodsA person commonly gains more weight during the following periods of life: between 12 and 18 months of age, between 12 and 16 years of age, adulthood when a person gains in excess of 60% of their ideal body weight and women, during pregnancy.

2. Genetic FactorsHeredity is linked to obesity. Studies of adopted children show that adopted children tend to have weights closer to their biological parents than to their adoptive parents.

3. Environmental FactorsEnvironment also strongly influences obesity. This includes lifestyle behaviors such as what a person eats and level of physical activity. The tendency to eat high-fat foods, to use labor saving devices coupled with a sedentary lifestyle are causes behind obesity.

4. Psychological FactorsMany people eat when they are stressed, bored or angry. Over time, the association between an emotion and food can become firmly fixed.

Depression and stress can also lead to obesity and are leading causes of eating disorders. Studies show most overweight people have no more psychological problems than people of average weight.

Most eating disorders can also be traced to behavioral or psychological difficulties. Up to 10 percent of people who are mildly obese and who try to lose weight on their own or through commercial weight loss programs have binge eating disorder. This disorder is even more common in people who are severely obese.

5. AgeMetabolism slows down with advancing age. As you get older you do not require as many calories to maintain your weight as you did when you were younger.

If you know about these factors you are in a better position to cope with the life cycles and manage your weight without getting into the problems of obesity.

Obesity Guide - Obesity Solutions

These days obesity is becoming more and more common of an occurrence, and it looks to be a rising trend. The main thing that needs to be understood is that obese people suffer from a problem, and need help to be able overcome these problems. Obesity solutions do exist but unfortunately most people are unable to make proper use of these to help themselves.

This is where governments need to step in and help. Yes, there might already be programs aplenty all designed to help people who are obese deal with their problems, but if you look closely at the foundation of these programs, none of them deal with the problem cohesively and almost none of these will have a support structure which overlaps with other obesity solutions.

Each of these obesity solutions is a plan and a design standing on its own, with a support structure only insofar as the program goes. When the particular obesity program is finished, or when the person needs, or voluntarily switches to a different obesity solution, they have to go through the entire process almost from the beginning. The current structure and solutions which they are using, in most cases, just won’t work for them.

This is not to say that there are no proper or viable obesity solutions at all. Only that what there is, it needs to be looked at and reorganized so that people can get the most benefit out of them, not the least.

People who are obese and are looking to get help with their obesity problems, also need to have a proper support structure in place. Again, these are there already, but not in a proper form or manner.

Many people will argue over this fact and even say that these support structures just aren’t being used properly by those who need it, and this will to some extent be true.

But what about the majority of the cases where the support structure fails these people, and where they fall through the cracks and the loopholes which can invariably be found in these support structures, as well as in the many other types of obesity solutions? What then?
These matters need to be dealt with, as well as other more fundamental matters, which can only help other obesity solutions, and not hinder them. We are for the most part, obsessed with weight and diets, but the fact of the matter is that none of these problems or the obesity solutions needed to solve them, would be needed if we addressed the larger issues at hand.

Obesity Guide - Obesity Epidemic

There are people who have found that they have gained a lot of weight. This weight gain can be seen as a problem with being medically obese. The definition of obese in terms of medial thinking is that your body has gained 100 pounds more than is considered as being safe. At present there are many people who suffer from this condition. This implies that there might be what is considered to be an obesity epidemic.

This obesity epidemic is not confined to one age group or even sex. It is globally widespread. The main causes for the onslaught of this obesity epidemic are our lifestyles. The way we live, the food that we eat, the places where we work are all contributing to this epidemic.

Unlike other epidemics there are only certain medical solutions which can be found. These should be undertaken with the full approval of your doctor. At present to combat the effects of the obesity epidemic the solutions include controlling the intake of food, having an active lifestyle, and doing some form of vigorous exercise. These are the first defense lines for losing weight.

If these methods don’t work there are other alternatives. These will include weight reduction surgeries. These surgeries are presently considered as being a good way to combat the obesity epidemic. There is one problem with this form of weight loss, and this deals with childhood obesity. As the obesity epidemic can also be found in children a suitable or different method for these children needs to be found.

This is due to the fact that medical bodies have been advised against performing any weight loss surgeries like gastric bypass surgery on children. Now unless the child patient is in a morbidly obese state there is another way to prevent this obesity epidemic from flowing into their vicinity.

The natural resilience of youth means that most children like to be active outdoors. You can encourage this tendency by letting them participate in various sporting activities. With these sports the fats and calories are burned up. As a result of this active lifestyle there is less chance for a child to become overweight.

The cures for the obesity epidemic can be found in having a healthy lifestyle. With this sort of living we have the ability of burning up all of these stored fasts just like our cave dwelling ancestors used to. Knowing all of these facts can help you to stop from being one of the candidates for the obesity epidemic.

Obesity Guide - Morbid Obesity

While being fat is considered as being anti-social and can cause a person to have health problems, morbid obesity can mean that a person has trouble performing their day to day tasks. For these people getting rid of their excess weight becomes a medical problem that needs lots of help.
There are many medical documents which detail what is considered as morbid obesity. This term needs to be understood because in the general conversations that we hear people use the terms “fat” and “obese” with ease. The person who first hears the words morbid obesity might become confused as to the differences between these terms.

So let’s sort these terms out in a simple manner. First off being fat is when you are not able to fit into any clothes which are designated in the size 10 through 12 and under. At this point you will still be able to exercise this excess weight off easily. When a person is obese they are considered as being in the clothes range of 16 and above. While getting rid of the weight is a little more difficult it is still accomplishable.

All of this changes when a person’s body weight enters the morbid obesity range. At this point in time you find that your personal weight is 100 pounds over what is considered to be your ideal normal body weight. As getting into this condition can lead to lots of health related problems you may want to stop your weight from going into this condition.

If you are not willing to wait until you visit your doctor to find out if you are heading towards the morbid obesity side there are various devices which have been designed to help you out. These will include the simple and easy to understand weight chart. In this chart the person’s height and ideal weight are listed.

There are two separate sections for men and women. This makes it easy for you to see what range of weight you should be in, in order to fall outside of the morbid obesity spectrum. The usual routes to weight loss may not work if you are looking at morbid obesity. At this point you might want to see if any of the strict diets like the Zone diet will help you to reduce your weight.

If these methods will not provide you with a significant amount of weight loss you can see the alternatives of weight reduction surgeries like the mini gastric bypass surgery. These methods coupled with a new active change to your lifestyle can help propel you out of being in the morbid obesity range.
